East meets West as Astrig Syranosyan weaves together cello and beautiful voiceAstrig Syranosyan, born in Lyon and of Armenian descent, has released an interesting album juxtaposing masterpieces for unaccompanied cello and traditional songs from his own Armenian roots. In particular, in the first of the great Bach's Suites for Unaccompanied Cello, he intersperses a very short Armenian melody between each movement, creating an interesting dialogue between a masterpiece representative of Western classical music and an Eastern verse. In each folk song, with the exception of "The Mountains of Aragats," which is played only by the cello, the audience also enjoys Silanosyan's beautiful playing on five of the songs, which he sings to the accompaniment of his own cello. The duo, so to speak, of the human voice and the cello, which is said to be the closest to the human voice, is a joy to behold. Naxos Japan
