Fernando Sol was born in Spain. Sol, who learned to play the guitar from his father, wrote numerous works to further promote the instrument, which was beginning to gain prominence at the time. His works are often melodic in nature, utilizing a refined sense of harmony, rather than featuring the virtuosity of his contemporaries such as Mauro Giuliani and Ferdinando Carulli, and his exercises and variations remain a model for guitarists even two centuries after their composition. The series of variations on this album are Sol's masterpieces, among which "Introduction and Variations on a Theme from Mozart's The Magic Flute, Op. 9" is one of his best works. Christian El Kouri, born in Milan in 1988, is a guitarist. He studied guitar from an early age, and in 2003 he entered the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, where he studied under Paolo Querici. He then continued his studies at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Como. He currently performs extensively in Italy and abroad as a soloist, member of ensembles and chamber orchestras. Naxos Japan
