A collection of Polish chamber music works by Szymanowski, a meritorious contributor to the flowering of Polish music in the 19th and 20th centuries, his Violin Sonata, Op.9, was written at the beginning of his career, around age 22, and was immediately accepted by critics and audiences alike. Panufnik studied at the conservatories of Paris and Vienna, and was music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra from 1957-59 and received his citizenship in England; Op.1 was an early work, the only one of his complete works with an Op number, and here we have the composer's own revised version from 1977. It has elements of jazz as well as modernism and romanticism. Bacewicz was a violinist and pianist, and was one of the first famous Polish women composers. Her Violin Sonata No. 4 is her masterpiece, described as a "modern Brahms. This is a duo performance by the Huberman Trio and its members, based in Czenstochowa, Poland. Naxos Japan
