Description:
Busoni's opera of the same name, known as the precursor to Puccini's masterpiece "Turandot". Originally a musical drama (1905) based on a play by Gozzi, Busoni later completed it as an opera. The entire work is composed of four scenes, each of which is divided into two acts, Act I and Act II, with various characters and Japanese-style melodies. Arlecchino" was a double bill with "Turandot" in 1917. It is a unique work written by Busoni, who wanted to write a "satire on Renaissance Italy" rather than the "verismo opera" that was popular at the time, and dared to use the light-hearted style of the time. Both films feature veteran actors René Pape and Roberto Verrè, who give a good performance. The two discs, previously sold separately, are being re-released together. Naxos Japan
