Description:
The Tippett Quartet, a British quartet with many releases on the NAXOS label, performs four string quartets by Olwynn, who was so precociously talented that he became a professor of composition at the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 21. He wrote about 300 works in a wide range of styles, including film music in a straightforward style and avant-garde music with a lot of dissonance. He wrote his first string quartet at the age of 15, and composed 12 string quartets between 1923 and 1936, the last four of which are included in this album. Naxos Japan
