At first glance, François Couperin's clavecin (harpsichord) music seems simple and easy to play. However, it is really difficult to perfectly express the world that Coupland envisioned, and if you come across a good performance, it will be an unforgettable experience. The four-volume collection of Klavsan pieces, which occupy an important place in Coupland's complete oeuvre, may appear to be a mere collection of dances, but each piece is given an elaborate title that helps to set the listener's imagination free. Olivier Fortin mixes the pieces from the first through the fourth collections, giving them a fluid flow that sheds new light on Couperin's work. In between the pieces, he intersperses eight old-fashioned preludes taken from his book "Clavusan Technique," which contains notes on performance and his own personal reflections. Naxos Japan
