[Yoi" represents the journey of a "heretic" named Katsuya Takeuchi, who was devoted to metal and rock music in his teens and worked as a guitarist in rock bands for many years. At the same time, he was attracted to the improvisational nature and sound of jazz, and in his late 20s he became a jazz guitarist. This work can be described as an omnibus of Katsuya Takeuchi's musical life. While the album is based on contemporary jazz, and is interspersed with many improvisations, the guitar riffs have a metal music flavor, and the melodies have a melancholy feel with influences from Japanese pop music. The individual personalities of the recording members are also strongly reflected in the music, giving it a strong band-like appeal. In particular, Track 2 [Interstellar] is a song that shines with Takeuchi's Japanese sense of melody and modal jazz approach, and is a very poignant "battle of personalities" between the members.Other tracks include Track 8 [886], which incorporates a beautiful lyrical melody and Japanese-style chord progression, and Track 5 [Play is Work], which dares to use old-school jazz standard forms while giving a sense of originality, and other tracks that also showcase a variety of personalities and genres. All of them are a mixture that only Katsuya Takeuchi could create, and one cannot help but feel that the Katsuya Takeuchi genre is about to be born. This work may reach not only contemporary jazz and jazz guitar fans, but also instrumental band listeners with strong rock and pop elements.
