This is a reissue of the classic 1965 album "Drums A Go-Go" by legendary drummer Sandy Nelson, who had many instrumental hits in the surf rock scene in the 1960s. The album features the title track and many other originals as well as instrumental versions of classic songs such as "Whittier Blvd." by the Gee Midnighters, "I Like It Like That" by Pete Rodriguez, and "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones. It's a pounding, dancin' beat by a pioneering surf rock drummer! Sandy Nelson is a surf rock drummer born in Santa Monica, California in 1938. In 1959, he released "Geronimo" as a renegade with Bruce Johnston (Beatch Boze) and Richard Podler. Later, as a session drummer, he participated in recordings by Teddy Bears, Hollywood Argyle's, and others.Then, in 1959, his debut solo song "Teen Beat" became a huge hit, reaching #4 on Billboard and selling 1 million copies, an unprecedented feat for an instrumental song by a drummer. After that, he signed with Imperial and released many singles. The band released a number of singles, including "Let There Be Drums" and "Drums Are My Beat. In 1963, he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident that resulted in the amputation of his right leg, but he continued to record and left more than 30 albums by the early 1970s. He passed away in 2010 at the age of 83.
