It has been (almost) half a century since their debut. The Sparks are an unbeatable pop duo with a cult following around the world. Since their album debut in 1971, the duo, consisting of brothers Ron and Russell Mair, has consistently created a sound world that is recognizable as Sparks, while incorporating the pop music of the era into their own, from glam to power pop, electro to dance pop, and even chamber pop. In 2017, they released their 23rd studio album, "HIPPOPOTAMUS", and have frequently performed in Japan, including a concert in Japan in 2017 and a solo show at Midnight Sonic & Summer Sonic '18 in 2018, They are still very active, and in July of this year, they commented on Twitter that they were "working on a new album. In July of this year, they announced on Twitter that they are "working on a new album." This "best of" album tracing their career spanning (almost) half a century will be released. The album is curated by Ron & Russell themselves. The songs are selected from their debut album "HALFNELSON" to their latest album "HIPPOPOTAMUS".These include hit numbers such as "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both Of Us," which reached #2 in the UK, and "Amateur Hour," which reached #7 in the UK (both of which were included on "Kimono My House"), as well as "Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth" and the Beatles' cover of "I Want To Hold Your Hand. The disco-pop songs "The Number One Song In Heaven" and "Beat The Clock," co-written and produced by Giorgio Moroder, reflect the era, and the new wave pop numbers from the 80's, "When I'm With You," I Predict," the electro-pop infused "When Do I Get To Sing My Way," and the latest single, "Edit Piaf (Said It Better Than Me)," all of which are dazzling, seductive pop numbers. The album also features Sparks and Franz Ferdinand in their supergroup, FFS, whose song "Johnny Delusional" is included on this best-of album.Since its formation, Sparks has consistently played Sparks-style pop music in an unprecedented pop realm. However, with the arrival of Lemon Twigs and others, their DNA has been passed on to the new generation, and a new form of perverted pop music is blooming. PAST TENSE" is not just a retrospective of Sparks' "past" - it is a new and fresh take on pop music!
