Description:

David Timm & Leipzig University Choir! Verdi on period instruments! David Timm & the Leipzig University Choir present a remarkable new album of Verdi's "Requiem" performed on period instruments such as the ophicleide! In 2005, David Timm became the Music Director of the University of Leipzig, where he conducts the Leipzig University Choir, a group of young students who are passionate about music while pursuing their studies at the University. David Timm (Darfit Timm). The Leipzig Mendelssohn Choir was founded by graduates of the Leipzig University of Music and Drama (Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Drama Leipzig) and is now renewed for each concert with musicians from all over Germany and sometimes from abroad, in addition to local musicians. The Leipzig Mendelssohn Orchestra. This live recording by David Timm and the Mendelssohn Orchestra, which specializes in historical performances, features a remarkable program of Verdi's "Requiem" on period instruments! Although modern orchestras took root at the end of the 19th century, there are still large regional differences in the use of individual instruments, and new instruments have not become widely available. The speed at which new instruments became popular was also mixed. For this recording, gut strings were used for the strings, and the standard pitch of the time, A4=438 Hz, was chosen to explore a tone familiar to Verdi. The winds in particular are quite different from those used at the time: in addition to the four bassoons, there are four trombones, and the lower register is supplemented by an ophicleide (here not the keyed type, but the Valvian type, which developed in Verdi's time). The combination of the Leipzig Mendelssohn Orchestra, which reproduces and freely manipulates the composer's intended tone in every detail, the passionate and emotional youthful chorus of the Leipzig University Choir, the outstanding German vocal soloists, and the instruments as Verdi would have intended them to be, makes for a charming and exciting " Requiem" recording has been completed.
