Complete works for cello and piano by Coppey and Dumont, performed on an Erard grand piano in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Gabriel Fauré's death This year (2024) marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Gabriel Fauré (1845~1924). To coincide with the memorial year, Marc Coppey will release his complete works for cello and piano. The concert will be performed by François Dumont. This recording is performed on an Erard grand piano, which Fauré highly praised for its colorful tone. The Erard piano, with its rich harmonic overtones and clear bass, is characterized by its rich sound, which was indispensable for French salon music of the time. This is an authentic Faure performance. Coppée was born in Strasbourg, where his careful music-making and graceful delivery are very appealing. After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, he won the first prize at the J.S. Bach International Competition at the age of 18, which brought him to the attention of the world. He has since had a successful career, performing as a soloist with conductors such as Eliahu Inbal, Emmanuelle Clivine, Alan Gilbert, and Yutaka Sado.He has had a distinguished career as a chamber musician, earning the trust of Michel Bellof, Augustin Dumay, Victoria Mullova, and Emmanuelle Payu. As a member of the Ysaÿe String Quartet (1995-2000), he has made numerous recordings. He is currently teaching at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, and is further expanding his activities as artistic director of the Zagreb Soloists Ensemble, and is actively releasing music on the audite label. The album "French Cello" (KKC-6505 / AU-97802) includes Fauré's Dirge, Op.24, with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra. Dumont, born in Lyon in 1985, is a talented pianist who won the fifth prize at the 16th International Chopin Competition in 2010 (the winner was Julianna Avdeyeva), and is known for her extremely beautiful playing from Baroque to modern French music.
