The world of Georg Katzer's electronic music, which is addictive because of its unique floating sensation of tension amidst the quietness of the room. electronic and acoustic works spanning nearly 30 years from 1976 to 2010. One of the major themes of his compositions is an eye toward historical and political events, as in "Before Ariadne" (1968) and "Mein 1989" (1989), both of which are responses to the political upheaval in East Germany. The tension and disquieting atmosphere in this serene world may be said to be the very reality of the composer, who found himself in the center of these turbulent times. The "Action of Machines and Wear" is a unique work in that a child reads the entire text of the "Machines" section from the French encyclopedia "Larousse" in the middle of the piece.
