Description:

The third volume of the complete Bach works for keyboard by the prodigious Arall! This is the third volume of a project by noted keyboardist Banjaman Arar to record all of J.S. Bach's keyboard works on the theme of "France," which greatly influenced Bach. The first volume (KKC 5918 / HMM 902450) contains pieces composed by J.S. Bach as a teenager between 1699 and 1705. The second volume entitled "To the North" (KKC 6018 / HMM 902453) contains works by J.S. Bach at the age of 15, when he left his brother for Lüneburg in northern Germany and became devoted to his predecessors, especially Buxtehude. In this third volume, we find Bach's remarkable interest in and expressive experimentation with French music from the period when he became a "young master" at the age of 23, when he was attached to the court of Weimar. French keyboard works were sweeping Europe at the time, and Bach was greatly influenced by them. Even before Bach served at the court of Weimar, he had studied French dances by copying many of them from the collections of his brother Johann Christoph Bach and Georg Böhm.[CD 2] is an organ work. It includes Bach's arrangement of the Holy Roman Empire from Couperin's "The People of the Nations" (this piece was well known to Pisendel, as he often performed it in Germany at the time). The organ chosen by Allard for this concert is a 1710 Zilberman, an instrument with all the tonal qualities of a French orchestra or a Lully opera, and the richness of its sound is astonishing. You will also enjoy Allard's tasteful ornamentation. Also included is the English Suite. BWV 806a was composed in the Weimar period. Throughout, we are again amazed by Allard's thought-provoking program, his excellent sense of performance, and by the fact that Bach was a voracious student of not only Buxtehude and his German predecessors, but also of a wide range of French styles, and that he was able to master them to a high level and write works that were his own. The contents of this exhibition will astonish you once again. King International
