Description:

Special release to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Arnold Schoenberg's birth! A compilation of Schoenberg recordings, a passion of Pierre Boulez Arnold Schoenberg, one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, was born in Vienna in 1874. Sony Classical is re-releasing the CBS/American Columbia recordings to commemorate the 150th anniversary of this great composer's birth. The company was a pioneer in documenting Schoenberg's work, an effort that continued even before his death (he died in 1952): in 1940, Columbia Masterworks produced the first recording of one of his most fascinating and revolutionary works, "Pierrot Possessed by the Moon. In the 1950s and 1960s, he embarked on a groundbreaking multi-volume series entitled The Music of Arnold Schoenberg. Perhaps the recordings by Pierre Boulez, who popularized Schoenberg's orchestral and vocal works, and by the Juilliard Quartet, which brought recognition to his chamber music.Sony Classical is pleased to announce the simultaneous release of the complete recordings by the Juilliard String Quartet (7-CD box) and the complete Schoenberg recordings by Boulez on CBS/Columbia (13-CD box). This boxed set, a compilation of Boulez's Schoenberg recordings, "has done my best to accommodate the masterpieces of Stravinsky and Schoenberg... especially Schoenberg," says Boulez himself, and includes the 1974 "Glee Song" and "Moses and Starting with "Glee Songs" and "Moses and Aron" (Grammy nominated) in 1974 and ending with the choral cycle in 1986, this is the only recording of Schoenberg's works by Boulez that has been made over a period of more than 10 years, with the exception of a few works (symphonic poem "Pelleas et Melisande", violin concerto, piano concerto) and other recordings/re-recordings of the same works on other labels. The recordings of Schoenberg's works by Boulez are concentrated here.CBS, which at the time was aggressively and comprehensively recording works by composers such as Stravinsky, Ives, and Copland, who left an important mark on 20th century music, undertook this major project with the prestige of its own company, The project was produced through meticulous session recordings with three ensembles with which Boulez was deeply involved: the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Ensemble Antennconcemporain. From "Gleis Songs," the climax of the late Romantic period when Mahler and R. Strauss reached their peak, through "Jacob's Ladder," which eventually broke away from tonality and established the twelve-tone technique, to the Chamber Symphony No. 2 after his exile in the U.S., the transition in Schoenberg's style can be traced with the best interpretation of each work. It is not only a timeless masterpiece of historical value that traces the evolution of Schoenberg's style from "Jacob's Ladder" to the Chamber Symphony No. 2 after his exile in the U.S. with the best interpretations of each work, it is also one of the most comprehensive recordings of conductor Boulez, who tackled a huge part of the composer's works, from large to small, vocal and instrumental, famous to rarely performed. This is probably the most important of Boulez's complete recordings, along with the series of recordings of Stravinsky's works. Sony Music
