Description:

This release commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of William Maceroth, the brilliant American pianist who premiered Ives' Sonata No. 1 and Copland's Piano Fantasy. A terrific set of his innovative recordings is now available in its entirety for the first time. American pianist William Maceros (born August 11, 1920 in Niagara Falls, New York; died October 23, 1992 in New York City) was one of the most distinctive performing artists of his generation, and his name is deeply embedded in the minds of deep piano fans His name is deeply engraved in the memory of deep piano fans. This box brings back to life all of the solo recordings that Maceros made for Columbia and RCA between 1950 and 1971, with the same coupling and jacket design as when they were first released. Only one of these recordings, the 1971 RCA recording of Schumann's "David League Dances" and Brahms' Sonata No. 1, was released in Japan, and it is better known for the superb collaboration on the complete Brahms violin sonatas (including the rare FAE sonata) that he recorded with Toshiya Eto. The two have performed together on many occasions, including the first time in 1966.His name has remained only among piano aficionados because of his wide repertoire and his concert debut with the New York Philharmonic in Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1, conducted by Mitropoulos, followed by performances with Bernstein, Montoux, Klemperer, Stokowski, Haitink, Ormandy, and other great conductors, Although he was a popular pianist who performed with such famous conductors as Bernstein, Montoux, Klemperer, Stokowski, Haitink, and Ormandy, he made only a few recordings, and this is partly due to the fact that most of his recordings were of contemporary music.
