The real pleasure of listening to the depths of Chopin's music with Ansnes. This is the fifth Sony Classical release by Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Ansnes, following his "Journey to Beethoven" (a performance and recording of the complete piano concertos) from 2012 to 2014 and a lovely solo Sibelius album, as only a Scandinavian musician can, Ansnes This is his first Chopin album in a quarter of a century. In 1992, when Ansnes made his debut, he released a two-disc Chopin album including the complete piano sonatas, but this is the first time in 36 years that he has tackled Chopin's works as a full album. The program is a royal one, combining all of the ballades with four nocturnes. Chopin's music has become much more accessible to me in the past 10 years. This coincided with the challenge of playing the most technically complex of the four ballades, No. 4, which I had not played before as the "Sacred Graal,"" said Ansnes. Ballades Nos. 2 and 4 were also featured in the 2016 concert in Japan, where they received rave reviews.
