Description:
Veterans, Nevel and the Huelgas Ensemble disclose the charms of the 16th century Flemish composer Christophe Printemps (1520-1589) was a publisher from France. Formerly a bookbinder, he was attacked by a robber on his way to a delivery destination and injured his arm. He then turned to letterpress printing. With Antwerpen as his main base of operations, he also worked in Paris and Leiden, where he published more than 1,500 items. He was also appointed head printer to the King of Spain and warrant agent to the University of Leiden. Plantin's publishing house is still intact and has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List as the Plantin-Moretus Museum. His publications include dictionaries and Bibles translated into various languages, scientific and medical works, and sheet music. The works included here are carefully selected from the scores published by Printemps, some of which are valuable and full of interesting musical diversity and beauty by Flemish composers of the 16th century. The publication is said to have demonstrated the essence of great music and contributed to its widespread dissemination in Europe. The composer Philippe de Monte, whose music is included here, brought this publication to Vienna, where it successfully enhanced the quality of his musical activities.This performance, reproduced on the basis of the research of Nevel, a well-known musicologist and authority on Flemish polyphony, is performed by the Wellgus Ensemble in soothingly beautiful harmony.
