The performance is reminiscent of the roaring sound of the Berlin Philharmonic's thick and powerful resonance, but with the groove and furious march of a live performance, and the beauty of the delicate and colorful solos that are heard in abundance by the virtuosos while the musicians are given some leeway and freedom in key passages. Rattle's free and expressive tempi, balance, and dunamics are projected onto Brahms' intricate textures by the orchestra, which weaves them together with a rich three-dimensionality based on the opposing string instruments. The music of Brahms is perfectly reproduced with a sense of unity and song as an orchestra with such a vast amount of information.
