This project spotlights two little-known "piano trios" from 19th century Vienna. Julius Zellner (1832-1900) was the recipient of the 1887 Vienna Composers' Society Prize and the 1889 Beethoven Prize, and his works were reportedly highly praised by Brahms and Fuchs. Richard von Berger (1854-1911), a native of Graz, was influenced by his teacher Brahms in his works, and his "Op. 12," published in 1888, is a fine work that is also regarded as one of the most outstanding string trios of the late Romantic period.
