Romantic Cello Concerto Volume 7! Wilhelm FITZENHAGEN! Hyperion's very popular "Romantic Concerto Series (RCS). The seventh release in the "Cello" series is a collection of cello concertos by Wilhelm FITZENHAGEN (1848-1890), an outstanding German cellist and composer. Fitzenhagen was also active in Russia as a soloist and pedagogue, and is famous for dedicating Tchaikovsky's famous "Variations on a Rococo Theme" to him. Fitzenhagen's arrangement of the "Variations on a Rococo Theme" is more widely known than Tchaikovsky's original, and the "Fitzenhagen Version" of the "Variations on a Rococo Theme" and two unknown cello concertos are included here as well.The soloist is Alban Gerhard, the new emperor of the German cello world and a regular participant in the Romantic Cello Concerto Series. Gerhard, who has been responsible for numerous world premiere recordings and continues to seek new works and interpretations, will bring out the unknown side of FITZENHAGEN, which is not only "rococo".
