Purcell's "Fantasia Collection" is seen as the finest and most complex work in the genre, integrating esoteric counterpoint with all the polyphonic technical splendor of its time.The performance of the three- and four-voice Fantasia by Holloway and members of the ensemble offers deep insights into the structure of the composition and reveals a new perspective on the composer. Holloway writes of it as "an extraordinary ability to walk the slightest gap between joy and sorrow, and to beautifully express the melancholy that was the characteristic mood of his time."
