Lusine Grigorian makes her ECM debut with works by Armenian musician Komitas. The album may be regarded as a follow-up to the well-received recording of works by Armenian musician Komitas by the Grujev Ensemble and Lvon Eskenian. Also recorded in Lugano in 2015 and produced by Manfred Eicher, some of the tracks overlap. The Gurdjieff Ensemble's version of the piece explores the composer's sonic inspiration from the ethnic instruments, while Lusin Griorian conveys the same timbre by exploring the range and sonic possibilities of the piano's articulation. In other words, the performance has the flavor of the folk instruments duduk, tar, zurna, and cetera, as Komitas intended. Levon Eskenian states that Grigorian "conveys the mystical presence of typical rural ceremonial music."In this recording, Lusin Grigorian's ECM debut, you will hear "Seven Songs," "Seven Dances," "Songs for Children," and "Msho Shoror" by Komitas.
