Introducing a collection of Rachmaninoff transcriptions by the young Czech virtuoso Marek Kozák. Kozák studied under Ivan Krasky at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He is a dedicated virtuoso who won first prize at the 2018 Bremen International Piano Competition and was a finalist at the 2021 Géza Anda International Competition. In the 19th century, arrangements became widespread as a means of bringing music—previously heard only in concert halls—to a broader general audience. Arrangements serve as a medium for disseminating music and also provide a platform for performers to showcase their technique and individuality. Liszt and Busoni elevated this genre to a high art form. Rachmaninoff (1873–1943) was also a prolific arranger. He worked on a four-hand version of Tchaikovsky’s *Manfred Symphony* (now lost) and, at the age of 18, arranged *Sleeping Beauty* for four-hand piano (though Tchaikovsky did not hold this arrangement in high regard). In 1900, his first arrangement for solo piano was born: the “Menuet” from Bizet’s *Carmen* Suite. This was revised into a more refined form in 1922, and it is that version that can be heard on this recording. In addition, from arrangements of his own songs to the virtuosic "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2" by Liszt (featuring Rachmaninoff’s cadenza), Kozak’s respect and love for Rachmaninoff and the original works wash over the listener like a flood of sound.
