Jazz legend and tenor player George Coleman's one-horn work, "The Quartet," with the strongest support from the Harold Mayburn Trio, is recommended for hard bop/mainstream fans and one-horn fans alike! Records presents the latest release from the one-horn quartet of jazz legend tenor player George Coleman. Coleman was born in 1935 in Michigan, Tennessee, and joined Miles' group with Herbie Hancock and others in the mid-1960s for "Seven Steps to Heaven," "In Europe," "My Own Country," and "My Own Country," and has since released three albums, He joined Miles' group with Herbie Hancock and others in the mid-1960s for Seven Steps to Heaven, In Europe, My Funny Valentine, and Fore & More albums. He was replaced by Coltrane, and after Coleman, Wayne Shorter, so his modal sound was less impressive, but his popularity grew.He has since performed with Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Charles Mingus, Cedar Walton, B.B. King, and others, and has recently been performing and recording at the Smoke jazz club in New York City. This studio recording was made in May 2019. It is a one-horn quartet featuring Harold Mayburn, a contemporary of Coleman, on piano, John Webber on bass, and Joe Farnsworth, a successful white drummer, on drums. This rhythm section is the strongest trio that Eric Alexander, a popular tenor player who looks up to Coleman as a mentor, has worked with for many years, and they are truly members that Coleman and I have come to know each other by heart. The album title, "The Quartet," suggests the tight bond between these four musicians. The album contains a total of nine songs. The album starts with Coleman's original song "Paul's Call," dedicated to Paul Stache, owner of the jazz club "Smoke.The program includes "I Wish You Love," a beautiful love song by chansonist Charles Trenet; "Prelude to a Kiss" by Ellington, which features the phrase "Take The A Train" in the middle of Mayburn's solo; "Lollipops and Roses" by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass; "Along Came Bet Bet" by Benny Golson from Art Blakey's "Mornin';" and "Lollipops and Roses," which was also performed by the Tijuana Brass. The final track, "You've Changed," a ballad by Carl Fischer, is a masterpiece. Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Triste" as the final track. The variety of songs on this album is excellent, and you will not be bored at all throughout the entire album. Recorded at Share Sound in New York City in May 2019. Cover photo by Jimmy Katz, who has taken many cover photos for the label. Recommended for hard bop fans, mainstream fans, one-horn fans, and fans of standard tunes.
