Description:

Commemorating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth. 90th anniversary of Goulda's birth and 20th anniversary of his death. The latest reissue of Goulda's superb masterpiece, "Diabelli" recorded in 1970, along with Bach. A fast and furious Beethoven performance! Mastered only in analog domain and converted directly to DSD! New reissue from the original MPS analog tapes in Japan. Excellent recording. World's first SACD release! This is one of the most famous recordings of Gulda, as well as Bach's "Mean Law", recorded by MPS, a former West German jazz label, in February 1970, the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, which was the last Beethoven anniversary. It was released in the same year as it was, and the LP was released in Japan by Nippon Columbia in 1971. The CD era sound quality was a bit thin, but the CD released by MPS last time had a reputation as a restoration of the original sound quality. For this reissue, the original MPS analog master tapes were newly used, and the latest mastering was done by the famous engineer Christoph Stickel, just like the way Berlin Classics has been reissued in the past. The mastering has been done with the utmost care to preserve the best possible sound quality, so you can enjoy a performance that is more precise and dense than ever before. In 2020, the year of the 90th anniversary of Goulda's birth and 20th anniversary of his death, the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, and the 50th anniversary of the recording and release of the album, we are finally releasing this high-quality disc in the best possible packaging. The MPS label was established in 1968 and became affiliated with BASF in 1971, so the jacket of the first release with Beethoven's image was changed to a jacket with Gulda's full face. However, since BASF withdrew from the market in 1976, the Gulda jacket remained the same, but the BASF logo, which was on the right side of the MPS logo in the upper left corner, became a white blank space, and some other changes were made and sales continued (domestic issues were issued by Teichiku using the Gulda jacket). Later, in 1983, it was sold to Polygram, and in 2014 it moved to the Edel Group, which includes Berlin Classics. In 2016, the year after the reissue of Bach's Mean Law, a CD reissue was released from the original analog master tapes stored at MPS, which was a hot topic at the time, as was the case with the Mean Law (the CD is currently out of print). The reissue of the CD is based on the original jacket design of the first release, and the jacket design of the later reissue is included in the manual.(1/2)
