Description:
The full story of Zaderatsky, the "enigma" of modern Russian music, sees the light of day! Vsevolod Zaderatsky was born and died in the same year as Prokofiev. However, his life and reputation were in stark contrast, his name was erased, and his works were never performed or recorded publicly. In 1920, he served as a counter-revolutionary officer in the Russian Civil War and was captured. He was captured in 1920 as a counter-revolutionary officer in the Russian Civil War, but was spared execution thanks to the efforts of Gerzhinsky, the leader of the Red Army, who recognized his talent for music. In 1926, however, he was arrested without any reason given and all of his works were destroyed. Two years later he was released and wrote two piano sonatas and 24 preludes, but was arrested again for conducting a student orchestra in works by Wagner and Richard Strauss and sent to a prison camp near the Kamchatka peninsula for "attempting to spread fascist music. While most prisoners die within four years, Zaderaatsky survived and wrote 24 preludes and fugues on the margins of a piece of telegraph paper. As is typical of Russian composers of the first half of the 20th century, the influence of Scriabin can be felt, but the counterpoint style of Zaderatsky's writing, which he learned from his teacher Taneyev, is unusual in Russia, and is of great interest. It is a pity that he could have been a representative Russian composer of the 20th century if he had worked in a free world, anticipating Shostakovich in the 24 preludes as well as in the preludes and fugues. The piano pieces include "Factory," "Battle," and "Air-raid shelter," as well as "Taiga," which surrounds a prison camp, all of which are titles that one would like to hear, as is typical of Soviet composers. This is an album that should be listened to by all those interested in 20th century history and music. King International
