Dvorak's Requiem by Helleweghe on video! A live video of Dvořák's masterpiece "Requiem," written during his mature period, by the Collegium Vocale led by Philippe Herreweghe and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra (renamed the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra in 2017) is now available. The performance of the same day has already been released on CD, but as it was a highly acclaimed performance, it is nice to be able to see it on video. Dvořák's Requiem is a large work consisting of 13 pieces in two parts, and is regarded as one of the two major religious works along with "Stabat Mater. Although the Requiem is nearly 100 minutes long, it is colored with beautiful melodies typical of Dvořák, and the music overflows with the prayers and solemn and pious sentiments that Dvořák put into his works, which can be fully appreciated.Herreweghe's masterful hands showcase the refined chorus of the Collegium Vocale and the dense harmonies and beautiful strings of the Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra. The four soloists are also a must-hear. The delicate and beautiful soprano Ilse Ehrens and the emotionally rich voice of Bernarda Fink are especially superb when their voices blend together.
