Description:

Live footage of the Clara Music Festival with the Shostakovich Mahler Chamber conducted by the brilliant conductor Kulenzis! Don't miss the performance with Isserlis! The Mahler Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1997 by Claudio Abbado and former members of the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchestra. In 1998, the orchestra welcomed Daniel Harding as Principal Guest Conductor. The orchestra also regularly collaborates with Esa-Pekka Salonen, Pierre Boulez, Kent Nagano, John Eliot Gardiner, Roger Norrington, Vladimir Jurowski, Tugan Sohiyev, Daniele Gatti, and others, earning international acclaim. This video is a live performance of the Clara International Music Festival in Belgium, which attracts attention in Europe every year as a unique music festival.Conducted by Theodor Kourlentzis, a Greek-born maverick who has attracted much attention. Kourlentzis was born in Athens in 1972. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Ilya Musin, a conductor who has given many conductors their start. In 2004, he founded Musica Eterna with the aim of performing music on the instruments and conventions of the time when it was composed, and in 2010 he was appointed artistic director of the Perm State Opera and Ballet Theatre. With the Mahler Chamber, he has demonstrated his unparalleled talent in Shostakovich's Piano Concerto (KKC 5223) with Melnikov, and is one of the most sought-after conductors in the world today. Isserlis is the soloist in Shostakovich's Cello Concerto. The unique Isserlis, Kulenzis' uncanny conducting, and the eccentric face of the music came together in a delightful performance. Britten's Sinfonietta was performed without a conductor, but the variety of musical ideas was vividly heard. And in Shostakovich's Symphony No. 1, Kulenzis's music-making and unique conducting style, which carefully sniffs out the composer's message, as in his work with Musica Eterna, is overwhelming, and the performance is filled with an extraordinary spirit.
