VAMPISOUL's latest release is a killer Latin album by a Peruvian tres player, who has been energetically reissuing a wide range of albums, from the essential masterpieces of South American Latin music such as salsa, cumbia, and chicha to obscure albums that are known only to those in the know! Oswaldo Mita Barreto was born in the port city of La Perla, Peru, but was a fan of Cuban musicians like Los Compadres from an early age. He was soon captivated by the sound of the tres (a stringed instrument used in Cuban music) on record, and gradually became a virtuoso tres player. Hearing of his fame, MAG, a leading Peruvian label, immediately requested a recording. The resulting compilation of his remaining 7" records was released as his first full-length album, "Arecibo" ('69).The band's performance is phenomenal from start to finish, with the well-known "Mango mangue" performed by El Gran Fejove and Celia Cruz, as well as "El Yoyo," which was previously cut as a single by VAMPISOUL, and other songs that showcase the swing of La Perla's most talented musicians. The swinging performance is astonishing from start to finish! The cool vibraphone sound of Joe Cuba's cover of "Arecibo" and other Joe Cuban tunes was played by a tres player, and the "island-like" sound that only a tres can give you was a real treat. The "island-ness" that only a tres can give is irresistible to Latin fans...! And the best of all are two of his own originals, the ultra-fast descarga "Mita descarga" and "Descarga en botella y guiro". The originals are rarely seen on the market, so Latin fans must have them!
