Yerning debuted on Spain's Elefant Records with two 10" EPs, 2012's Jukebox Romance and 2013's Still In Love, featuring talented composer Joe Moore and (at the time of their debut) 15-year-old singer Maddie Dobie. The promising British pop group features Justyna Halas (vocal), Gordon Campbell (guitar), Mark Kiff (guitar), Zoe Illes (cello), and many other musicians. Their first album, Dreamboats & Lemonade, was released in 2014, and while the first album sounds more like indie pop, like The School on Elefant or Camera Obscura on 4AD, they are more in the vein of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound and Brian Wilson influences in their sound production, and the sweet and sour flavor is very appealing, as if you are watching a coming-of-age movie from the 60's.Rather than a coming-of-age movie, this film is more like a European or French film, with the sorrowful guitar melody of "Forbidden Play" and the romantic atmosphere of Henry Mancini's "Sunflowers," Francis Ray's "Man and Woman" and Pierre Baroux's film group.
