The Cheiftones, a Tsimshian 60s pop/garage band, was dubbed "Canada's All-Indian Band. They swept the U.S. in the mid-60s with their unique native rock 'n' roll, and continued to tour south from Canada while releasing several singles on CLAREMONT in the mid-60s, before producing a single and an album for CUCA Records.The single "Do Lord / I Shouldn't Have Did What I Done," a laid-back, country-tinged, radio-friendly garage tune, was ambitious enough to be a hit, but it was not, and the album was not released until later. The album is a little different from the single, however, with an impressive tribal drum beat that evokes their indigenous roots, surfy guitars and gnarled organs that add a mysterious color to the music, and a half dozen pop numbers with high-tone, badass vocals, and a quiet, slow ballad. The album is an interesting mix of half a dozen pop numbers and half a dozen slow ballads.
