Pavarotti's popularity transcended genres, and his wide-ranging personal connections led him to perform with a number of major popular singers at numerous charity concerts entitled Pavarotti & Friends. Now Pavarotti's first outdoor performance, "Pavarotti - Hyde Park Concert," held in London's Hyde Park on July 30, 1991, is being digitally remastered and released on Blu-ray disc. Hyde Park is a park that stretches from Westminster to Kensington in central London, and was the main place of floral tributes at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, making it a popular place for the public. The concert was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Pavarotti's opera career, and the British newspaper "The Guardian" reported, "Not since the Rolling Stones' performance in 1969 has a free concert attracted such a large turnout.The program included famous arias from Verdi and Puccini's operas, his famous song "Nobody Sleeps," and the Neapolitan folk song "O sole mio" ("Return to Sorrento"), which evokes his homeland of Italy. More than 120,000 people gathered in Hyde Park in the pouring rain to enjoy the overwhelming singing ability of the singers.
