Christian Thielemann conducted the Staatskapelle Dresden in a concert of Bruckner's Eighth Symphony at the Semperoper in September 2009, and the concert is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. Tillemann has been the principal conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden since 2012. The concert was held at the Semperoper in 2009, before he assumed his new position. Christian Thielemann, who has been described as "the right-wing conductor of the German tradition," has made his presence felt both in performances and on recordings, as he has always expressed his passion for Bruckner.The Staatskapelle Dresden and the Staatskapelle have demonstrated the exquisite music that results from their good relationship, most recently on film in the complete Brahms symphonies (715204/715108). The orchestra's taste, characterized by a tremendous scale based on a slow and deliberate tempo and a deep string section, and the Semperoper's distinctive melancholy sound are exceptional.
