Description:
This is a collection of piano works by Hungarian-born pianist/composer Stefan Heller (1813-1888). Although today Heller is known mainly as a "composer of exercises," he was highly regarded as a pedagogue and performer in Europe at the time when he was active, and many people were enthusiastic about his music. In his later years, Heller's existence itself was forgotten, but only recently has he shown signs of revival. In this album, we can hear "Children's Scenes," in which Schumann's influence is evident, and "25 Pieces," in which his free spirit shines through. Recorded in 2015 with Luigi Gerosa on piano. (C)RS
