Description:

Donizetti: (in Japanese) Contents] (Scheduled songs) To the glorious battlefield Where is that enchanting voice Throwing my screams to the wind If someone is watching you in the living room This dark brown hair You are leaving, if you don't say goodbye The angels love me no more*. Under the sad willow tree Oh Chloe, this hero's pleasure Is the storm raging too? Ode of a dying man No God, no fate** O enchanting Irene, do not hate me Nichi, yes, lower your eyes Silence, in vain, dear Iole In this lime tree, quiet and leisurely With feathers on its crest Night has fallen, the bells have rung O God! Raging sea's fury (drops of tears) When I am far from You Stop all that I love If I were to die I will endure that wretched woman Whether I beg or weep A home so fondly remembered my darling, how I love you [Performed by. Nicola Alaimo (baritone) Carlo Rizzi (Piano) Hetty Snell (cello)* Daniel de Frey (harp)** Recordings All Saints' Church, London, September-October 2023 The prolific and versatile Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti, one of the central figures in Italian bel canto opera, composed more than 200 songs. Most of them were rarely performed, and several were completely unknown until recently. Under the supervision of musicologist Roger Parker, Opera Lara's artistic director and conductor Carlo Rizzi will play the piano, and Opera Lara will release a series of eight recital albums of complete solo songs. The project is a strong statement of the importance of Donizetti as a central figure in the 19th century song repertoire and of the Italian school of music in a field long dominated by German and French composers. The second installment of the series features baritone Nicola Alaimo, who made his U.S. debut in 2009 in Simon Boccanegra with the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Levine.A baritone who made her Met debut in 2011 in the same performance to rave reviews and is an essential part of operas by Rossini, Donizetti, and others, she also received high praise for the overwhelming sound and acting ability of her singing in "Falstaff" at the New National Theatre in 2023. Not only Italian songs, but also French and German songs are included here, each with their superb expression and a beautiful voice full of singing and full of cheerfulness. Includes a 76-page booklet with commentary (English only), lyrics (Italian, French, and German), and lyric translation (English only). (Warner Music)
