Description:
Rachmaninoff's Trio of Sorrows by Lise de la Salle and members of the Philharmonia Zurich Philharmonia Zurich is further evolving under the leadership of Fabio Luisi, who was appointed general music director beginning with the 2012/2013 season. The Philharmonia Zurich has been making recordings one after another on its own label, Philharmonia Records, which was launched in 2015. This release features French pianist Lise de la Salle, who was artist in residence from 2013 to 2015, Philharmonia Zurich concertmaster Bartuomi Nijo, and solo cellist Claudis Hermann, who will be performing Rachmaninoff's Rachmaninoff's Piano Trio.Lise de la Salle has released a disc of Rachmaninoff's five concertos with the Philharmonia Zurich (PHR-0104), which demonstrates her deep love for Rachmaninoff and her sincere musicianship. Rachmaninoff's two piano trios, called the "Triplets of Sorrow," are fascinating works from Rachmaninoff's youth. The first was composed in 1892, when he was a student at the Moscow Conservatory. Inspired by Tchaikovsky's "Reminiscences of a Great Artist," it is a short work of less than 15 minutes in a single movement, but its rich lyricism and melancholy melody are deeply moving. On the other hand, No. 2 was completed in December 1983, following the sad news of Tchaikovsky's death. Beginning with a solemn opening mourning Tchaikovsky's death, the music is richer in content and form than No. 1. The piano, in particular, requires a wide variety of tones and a high level of technique, making it extremely rewarding to listen to.The fluent narration of the violin and cello is as expected of two orchestra members, and the violin and cello tones blend mellowly with each other, intertwined with the dignified piano of Lise de la Salle, giving us a superb performance that brings Rachmaninoff's sweet fragrance to the boil.
