Description:
Savall’s Signature Repertoire: A Collection of Instrumental Music from Spain’s Golden Age! Recorded with Naïve and Aria Vox, this album brings together instrumental pieces from the 13 titles listed below—works that would likely have been performed at royal courts during Spain’s Golden Age. Although the tracks were selected from a long period spanning 1979 to 2004—which nearly covers the entirety of Savall’s recording career—the album is a magnificent work with a consistent and cohesive sound. Titles from which selections were made: “Cabanillas: Batalas, Tientos, and Pasacalles (CAB) (1660–1700),” “Queen Isabella I of Castile (CI) (1450–1504),” “Songbook of the Marquis of Calabria (CMCa),” “Songbook from the Colón Collection (CMCo) (1451–1506),” “King Alfonso V of Aragon, the Magnanimous (1396–1458)/Songbook of the Abbey of Monte Cassino (CMM),” “Songbook of the House of the Duke of Medina-Seli (CMMe) (c. 1535–95),” “The Royal Court Songbook (CMP) (1474–1516),” “Charles V (CV) (1500–1558),” “Interludes from Spain’s Golden Age (ESO),” “Rassus: Hymnal (LS),” “Collection of Ostinatos (OST),” “Encina: Collection of Romances and Villancicos (RV) (Salamanca/1496),” “Collection of 16th-Century Villancicos and Ensaladas (VE).” [Comment provided by King International]
