Andrew Manze, who became the principal conductor of the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra in 2006, gave an excellent performance of Brahms (1833-1897). In the previously released Beethoven, he gave a good performance with an unexpectedly restrained expression, valuing the freshness of the string instruments. Manze has established a solid reputation as an antiquarian musician, but when facing a modern orchestra like this, he does not emphasize the emotional aspect of the music, but focuses on faithfully and carefully portraying the score, and succeeds in creating a solid sound image. Of course, there are many aspects where the experience cultivated in ancient music performance comes into play, such as the various innovations in the placement of the instruments and the aggressive sounds that can be heard. It may not be a full meal, but the Brahms is like a vegetarian meal that has been carefully prepared in every detail, which brings a freshness to the music.
