This is a collection of organ music by Nielsen, a Danish composer known for his symphonies, concertos, and other large-scale works. They are truly diverse in expression, ranging from plain pieces for performance with a choir to his last work, "Commomotio" (meaning "trembling of the heart"). The long and mysterious "Kommotio," completed in 1931, is a crystallization of Nielsen's creative skills, and is one of his most confident works, sublimating the "idea and inner impulse for an organ work" that he had been harboring since around 1913. The organ at the Nikolaj Kunsthal Church in Copenhagen, once destroyed by fire in 1795 but rebuilt in the early 20th century, is one of Denmark's most famous instruments and has a tone suitable for playing Romantic works.
