This disc is flutist Sharon Bezzarie's 50th album, and it is a rich collection of music about the "synergy" created when she performs with such superb artists as Mikala Petri, Michael Collins, and Walter Auer! The album includes Telemann, Saint-Saens, Franz Doppler, Villa-Lobos, and Mahler's "Suite of Orchestral Works by J.S. Bach". In Telemann's concerto, he plays with Petri, the queen of the recorder, in an exquisite ensemble. Saint-Saens' "Tarantella" is an early work by Saint-Saens in which the flutes and clarinets are intertwined from beginning to end, and the banter between them is irresistible. Michael Collins and his breathtaking interplay is a charm.Franz Doppler (arr. Adrienne) in a concerto for two flutes and orchestra with Walter Auer, principal flutist of the Vienna Philharmonic! In this recording, Walter plays the first flute until the middle of the second movement, and Bezary plays the first flute after that. The two virtuosos play as if they were enjoying a dialogue. Villa-Lobos' Bacchiana Brasileira, "Bach in the Brazilian Style," is a nine-part work written for a variety of instrumental combinations, a tribute to Bach as well as an attempt to modernize the Baroque suite. The contrast between the flamboyant flute and the rich, velvety bassoon in No. 6, written for flute and bassoon, is indescribably appealing. And finally, Mahler's arrangement of "Suite from Orchestral Works by J.S. Bach" is included! Reorganized into four movements from Orchestral Works Nos. 2 and 3, this work has the thickness of a modern orchestra, but the harpsichord and organ appear in the basso continuo.A delicious "Overture" and "Rondeau-Badinury" from No. 2, in which the flute plays a big part, and the famous "Aria" and "Gavotte" from No. 3! The most attractive feature is the gorgeous orchestra through Mahler's filter. In this performance, the "Badinulie" is played once again at the end. Bach x Mahler is a fitting conclusion and seems to sum up the "synergy" theme of this album. a memorable album by the BIS label and Bezary, a must listen! King International
