Ephemeral ambient sounds with melancholic melodies.... New work by NY-based experimental musician William Basinski! In May 2008, while in his NY studio to work on a new piece, Basinski's brother called him and told him that his brother's wife's due date was delayed, and then Basinski went back to work and found an old tape loop in his lunch box that had never been discovered before. He went back to work and found an old tape loop in a lunchbox that had never been found before, and wondered if he could lure vivian (his baby brother's name) out of the house. I worked on the piece, wondering if I could lure vivian (my brother's baby name) out. The next day, we performed the piece live, and the day after that, Vivian was born! The next day, Vivian was born, and Basinski's cousin also had her first granddaughter, Ondine. Basinski named his new album after these two babies out of joy at their birth. The material on this CD was recorded live in one take in Los Angeles using a microphone and two norelco tape decks. It is a very graceful work, melting fragile ambient sounds of melancholic melodies in deep reverberations.
