The 18th International Chopin Piano Competition, held in October 2021, was postponed for a year due to the new coronavirus, Despite the postponement of the competition for one year due to the new coronavirus, the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition attracted an unprecedented level of talent from around the world, and the success of the Japanese contestants and the worldwide online distribution of the competition made the event more exciting than ever. The live recording of JJ Jun Li Bui, who won the 6th prize, was released from the Blue Series, a series of record-breaking live recordings of the competition released on the own label of the National Chopin Institute of Poland (NIFC), the organizer of the competition. This year's competition was particularly remarkable for its young talents, and the "17-year-old trio" of JJ Jun Ly Bui, Eva Gevorgian, and Hao Lao, who made it to the finals, attracted a great deal of attention, but JJ Jun Ly Bui was the only one who won a prize among them. Born in Canada to Vietnamese and Chinese parents, JJ Jun Ly Bui studied at the Oberlin Conservatory under Dang Thai Son. He mesmerized the audience with his fresh performance, manipulating his ever-changing tones, and showed glimpses of the talent that could make him a great pianist like his Vietnamese mentor.
