Description:

Penderecki, a Polish musical giant! Krzysztof Penderecki (1933-2020), one of the leading masters of contemporary Polish music, passed away on March 29, 2020 at the age of 86. The final volume of the concerto series, which has been promoted by the Polish label DUX to cover Penderecki's numerous "concertos," features transcriptions by leading French and Polish wind instrumentalists. Penderecki's works are characterized by an extraordinary sensitivity to transcriptions and arrangements for other instruments, and the soloists on this album bring out the full appeal of the works without compromising the character of the originals. The soloist is Michel Rutiek, who won the prestigious ICMA prize for his recording of Penderecki's Clarinet Concerto with Sinfonia Juventus on DUX in 2016; he was principal flutist of the Orchestre National de France in 1977 at the age of 21 and has recently become an internationally renowned conductor and French virtuoso Patrick Gallois, who has been active internationally as a conductor. He studied with Maciej Wacomi at the Paderewski Conservatory, with Christophard Gessling (former principal of the Berlin Philharmonic) at the Hans Eisler School of Music, and with Olaf Ott (principal of the Berlin Philharmonic) at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, and from 2019 Wojciech Jelinski is the first trombonist of the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra. He studied with legendary German clarinetist Sabine Meyer at the Lübeck College of Music and chamber music with Wolfgang Meyer and Eduard Brunner at the Karlsruhe College of Music. He regularly performs as a soloist at prominent music festivals throughout Europe and internationally as a chamber musician as a member of the Amadeus Wind Ensemble (members include players from the London Symphony Orchestra and renowned Polish instrumentalists and soloists), which was formed to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the birth of Mozart. The ensemble is composed of outstanding virtuosos such as Krzysztof Guzbowski, who is also a member of the Amadeus Wind Ensemble, which was formed to commemorate the anniversary of the London Symphony Orchestra.
