The Piatti String Quartet makes the world's first commercial recording of Boyle's string quartets!Since winning the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, the Piatti String Quartet has performed a variety of programming around the world. Vaughan Williams: Lieder" (CDA68378) on the Hyperion label in the 2020/21 season to critical acclaim. This release includes a rare English string quartet, the world's first commercial recording of works by Aina Boyle (1889-1967), "the most prolific and important female composer in Ireland before 1950. She is also known as a Carnegie Award-winning female composer, and for a time took lessons from Vaughan Williams. Also included are a string quartet discovered in the estate of Ernest John Moran (1894-1950), Vaughan Williams' arrangement of a Welsh hymn, and a string version of Iceland's famous "Holy Boy.
