World premiere! Janowitz's Last Recital LiveGundula Janowitz is a German soprano born in 1939. She was recognized by Karajan and took the world by storm with her participation in many performances. Her great predecessor Maria Callas passed away on September 16, 1977. On September 16, 1999, exactly 22 years later, Janowitz gave a recital in Athens, where Callas grew up, and coincidentally, it was also Janowitz's last public performance. Here, instead of his signature opera arias, he performs German lieder. Schubert's masterpieces are the main focus, followed by beautiful works by Richard Strauss. Schumann is placed as a link between the two, striking a perfect balance. The casual singing is full of richness, and is a divine work of art that makes you want to listen to it forever.
