After studying at the Korean National Conservatory of Music, he studied at the Moscow Central Conservatory and the Moxhwa State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In 2005, he graduated from the Hanover College of Music, where he studied with Lev Naumov. In 2000, he won a prize at the Busoni International Piano Competition, and in 2000, he won second prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition.In October 2010, he won the third prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition, further garnering international attention as the highest-placed Korean pianist ever to win the prize. His performance of "Chopin: Preludes" was excellent when he won the Chopin Competition in 2005, but this recording of the Preludes again, almost 10 years later, is even more brilliant, more expressive, and more majestic.
