Description:
Continuously presenting interesting organ works, a new collection of the complete works of Petr Eben is being initiated. Although he was treated unfavorably during the war, after the war he went on to the Prague Music Academy to study music in earnest. He also left his mark by being awarded the French title of Culture and Arts. Eben composed vocal, choral, piano, and chamber music for about half a century, but it was his organ music that he loved the most and composed most of his works. He was an uncompromising composer of his own style in an age when works with political overtones were being produced. It is said that he was influenced by Britten and Messiaen, but he did not reach the level of both of them, and his works are not difficult to understand. Eben is also known for his organ improvisations, and with the appearance of recordings of his music, he has been gaining popularity since around 1980. This is a collection of music by a composer who deserves to be heard today. The performance is by Janet Fishel, who is known as a leading expert on Eben's organ music. She teaches organ at a music school and also performs internationally.
