Description:
Mike Oldfield [1953- ] (arr. Marcel Bergman) :. Contents SIDE A Tubular Bells" Part 1 01. version for 2 pianos and 2 synthesizers 24'42 SIDE B Tubular Bells" Part 1 01. version for 4 pianos 24'58 Performed by Piano Ensemble └ Elizabeth Bergman └ Marcel Bergmann └ Sandra van Veen └ Jeroen van Veen Recorded: September 18, 2005, Barbara Church, Kulenborg, Horderland, Kingdom of the Netherlands Mike Oldfield's masterpiece "Tubular Bells" (released in May 1973), which became an explosive hit when it was used as the theme music for the movie "The Exorcist" (released in December 1973), was recorded by the then 19-year-old Mike himself on tubular bells, guitar, keyboards, and percussion, Mike Oldfield himself played more than 20 instruments including tubular bells, guitars, keyboards, and percussion, and made 2,400 multiple recordings for this elaborate album. Perhaps because of its strong impact, several different versions of the song have been produced, including Mike's own sequels "Tubular Bells 2" and "Tubular Bells 3," and a performance with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, in which Mike played guitar. Four Piano Version Marcel Bergmann has long been a fan of the Tubular Bells, and a conversation with Jeroen van Veen in 2005 inspired him to arrange the piece for his own "piano ensemble". Marcel studied the original album thoroughly and also referred to live recordings and orchestral versions arranged by David Bedford, a musician who participated in the original album, to create a version for two pianos and two synthesizers in addition to the arrangement for four pianos. In addition to the arrangement for four pianos, a version for two pianos and two synthesizers was also created. The arrangement is successful, guiding the mood of the piece in the direction of classical minimalism while maintaining the multi-genre, multi-layered rhythms and rich textures of the original (Japan Publishing and Trading Co.)
