The PIONEERS, led by SYDNEY CROOKS, were already veterans of the music scene when they worked with then new producer JOE GIBBS in 1967, but had not yet achieved much success. Within a year, however, they had become regulars on the national charts, producing such important hits as "LONG SHOT," "JACKPOT," "CATCH THE BEAT," and "NO DOPE ME PONY. Recognizing their popularity at home and abroad, UK's TROJAM collected their popular songs and made an album of them. Released on the AMALGAMATED label, a subsidiary created for JOE GIBBS, this album was a big hit among the burgeoning Afro-Caribbean community in the UK and among the young working class. It is still loved as a classic Rocksteady album, and the original version is sold at a high price. This CD reissue includes a bonus track produced by JOE GIBBS. This is a must-have for collectors and highly recommended.
