Jazz", a platform that delivers high-quality live jazz performances from around the world, has launched a vinyl release of a superb live performance in Madrid by the Cuban-born pianist Caramello de Cuba's quartet! Starting with a beautiful and delicate introduction, A1 "Nuestro Primer Encuentro" is an original number with an impressive touch reminiscent of Chick Corea. A2 "Para Luego Es Tarde" is a gentle and richly developed Latin jazz piece. The piano and keyboards alternate on B1, "Monday Evening," which stands out for its variety of expression. B2, a lyrical cover of "Serenata Diurna" (1975) by Silvio Rodriguez, the standard-bearer of Nueva Trova, is a gem of a live performance. Caramello's arrangement is one-of-a-kind, expressing the Latin flavor of his native Cuba, not only with classical and standard phrases that emerge from the improvisation, but also with dissonance like Thelonious Monk's. The interplay between the heavy rhythms and melodic bass solos, with the addition of cajón virtuoso Jose Montana, is also a must-hear.With a fluent and powerful piano touch, mellow Cuban rhythms, and electric soundscapes, the performances are created in dialogue with the audience, and the record is truly a discovery of a hidden treasure of the world.
